It\u2019s the <strong>largest federal credit union in the state of Maryland<\/strong>, and we serve the National Security Agency and their family members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before automation, we had <strong>over 1,000 balance sheet accounts<\/strong>, and every single reconciliation was done manually in <strong>Excel<\/strong>. We pulled data from multiple core systems\u2014shares, loans, and the general ledger\u2014which made reconciliation incredibly complex and time-consuming. Reconciling that many accounts and transactions manually was a daunting task. At one point, when we first learned about automated reconciliation, I was ready to move immediately\u2014though there were understandable concerns about what automation would mean for our team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left has-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f5e557cad52d984079cf6ae58c69e83a\"><strong><strong>The Moment Automation Became Non-Negotiable<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: <strong>What ultimately pushed Tower Federal Union to move forward with automation?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A:<\/strong> As Tower Federal Credit Union continued to grow, it became clear that our existing processes weren\u2019t sustainable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At one point, we had an ambassador visit the accounting department to understand what we do. After watching us reconcile the Federal Reserve account, she joked that it looked like all we did was \u201ccolor all day\u201d because we were checking and tying transactions manually. That really put things into perspective. We weren\u2019t adding value by matching transactions\u2014we needed to automate so our team could focus on real issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Implementation Journey: From Slow Start to Rapid Automation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: How did the implementation process unfold?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A:<\/strong> We began our automation journey in <strong>mid-2020<\/strong>, initially moving slowly. We worked with our implementation manager, but then COVID hit, and everything went virtual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, we were undergoing a <strong>core system transformation<\/strong>, which made it clear this was the right moment to accelerate automation rather than delay it. We partnered with our core provider to automate our first five key accounts. After that, we continued expanding automation on our own. Since moving fully to Trintech, the process has been extremely positive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left has-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-363fd175c444483536c7c31edc1b249d\"><strong><strong><strong>Quantified ROI: Operating More Efficiently with a Leaner Team &#8211; Without Sacrificing Accuracy<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: What has been the most significant return on investment?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A:<\/strong> The biggest ROI is very clear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before Trintech, our accounting department had <strong>nine full-time employees<\/strong>. Today, we operate with <strong>four FTEs and one AVP<\/strong>\u2014a <strong>50% reduction in staffing<\/strong>. The team we have now fully embraces technology. We\u2019re not afraid of automation\u2014in fact, our goal is to <strong>automate everything in accounting<\/strong>. Trintech will continue to play a major role in that strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left has-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4444e2af5820d407dbf3a9b484b523c4\"><strong>Faster Close and Work-Life Balance Restored<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: How has automation changed your financial close process and daily life?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A:<\/strong> We now close our books in <strong>two days\u2014sometimes three<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s no more staying late past 8:00 p.m. just to meet close deadlines. I can close my computer, go home, and spend time with my horse. My team can go home and be with their families. That work-life balance is incredibly important to Tower Federal Credit Union as an organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\"><strong><strong><strong>Partnership with Trintech: Personal, Collaborative, and Invested<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: How would you describe your relationship with Trintech?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A:<\/strong> The Trintech team members are knowledgeable, collaborative, and genuinely supportive of one another. My advice? <strong>Go for it.
